    2. - The two soldiers spend their free time on Sundays away from the barracks out in the countryside because they find the spot very fascinating and it also reminds them of their home. Hence, they do not feel happy anywhere else except this spot, where they arrive on their weekend. They just love to walk around together through the forest and farms, crossing the roads and stopping for a while on the bridge and looking at the water. These scenes provide them pleasure and they feel quite relaxed.


  2. Why does the girl become the topic of conversation for these soldiers?

    3. - The girl becomes the topic of conversation for these soldiers because both soldiers equally love her. Although they feel hesitated to talk to her and express their feelings with her, they like her very much. They are equally attracted by the dairy maid's appearance, her activities and her personality.


  3. Why does deception enter into their friendship?

    4. - Deception enters into their friendship because both of the friends Luc and Jean love the same girl, the dairy maid. Seeing this kind of circumstance, any one of them is certainly to be deceived since a girl cannot love both of them. Here in this story, Jean has been deceived by his friend Luc. Luc starts to meet with the dairy maid without sharing anything with Jean. That leads a tragic event with Jean and because of such deception by his friend, he commits sucide at the end of the story.


  4. Do you think Luc is a betrayer of friendship?

    5. - Yes obviously Luc is a betrayer of friendship because he keeps confidential about his meeting the dairy maid. He ask for leave and doesnt return until 10 o'clock at night. Again, he borrows 10 cents from one of his friends and once more asks leave for several hours. His friend Jean gets worried and doubts at the same time but unable to decide anything about him. Not only this, when Jean and Luc start their journey on Sunday, Luc behaves very differently with his friend Jean. He seems disturbed and confused. He doesn't talk with his friend that makes Jean more upset and feels that he has been betrayed by his friend Luc.


  5. What is the cause of sucide of Jean? Do you think that it was the only release of his love?

    6. - The cause of sucide of Jean is betrayal both by his friend Luc and the dairy maid. First of all, Luc hides his plan to meet her and changes his behaviour with Jean. Another factor of sucide is a very wrongful behaviour has been conducted by the dairy maid. Usually, she gives cow milk to both of them and talk in a friendly manner without being biased. But that day dairy maid only talk with Luc and shows her love and affection towards him. Not only that, she doesn't offer any milk to Jean that day. All this kind of changed behaviour brakes his heart. He wants to weep, to run away, to hide somewhere, never to see anyone again. He feels totally weak being deceived by both of them. I don't think it was the only release of his love because sucide can never be the solution of an problem. Jean could have another option to forget the dairy maid as well as his friend Luc.
