Penalty shoot-out- n. (in football) a way of deciding the winner when both teams have the same score at the end of a game. Each team is given a number of chances to kick the ball into the goal and the team that scores the most goals wins. 

1. beating-n. a very heavy defeat.

2. soccer-n. football

3. mocking-v. teasing

4. anthem-n. football song

5. dejection-n. the feeling of unhappiness and disappointment.

6. dived- v. (for sth) to suddenly move /jump forward to do something or reach something.

    eg- The goalkeeper made a dive for the ball.

7. mobbed - a group of people who are similar in some way

8. sprinted - v. to run a short distance very fast

9. jubilant - adj. feeling or showing great happiness because of success

10. plunged - to move suddenly downwards

11. podium - n. a small platform that a person stands on when giving a speech

12. backdrop - n. the scenery surrounding an event

13. ticker-tape - an occasion when people throw pieces of paper as a part of the celebration

14. heartache - n. a strong feeling of sadness or worry

15. streak - n. a series of successes or failures especially in a sport.

16. barge - to move in an awkward way, pushing people out of the way or crashing into them. 

17. steward - n. a man whose job is to take care of passengers on a ship.

18. midfielders - n. the group of players in this position 

19. equalizer - n. a goal that makes the score of both teams equal

20. flicked - to hit something with a sudden quick movement

21. stuttered - to move with difficulty 

22. penalty - a disadvantage given to a player or a team when they break a rule. 

23. major - very large or important; main.

24. stadium - a large sports ground surrounded by rows of seats and usually other buildings.

25. trophy - an object such as a silver cup for winning a competition.

26. defender - a player who must stop the other team from scoring in games. 

27. anthem - a song that has special importance for a country, an organization, or group of people and is sung on a special occasion.

28. dejection -  a feeling of unhappiness and disappointment 

29. jubilant - feeling or showing great happiness because of success

30. record - a written account of something that is kept so that it can be looked at and used in the future.

31. suave - confident, elegant, and polite, sometimes in a way that does not seem sincere (especially of a man) 

32. podium - a small platform that a person stands on when giving a speech or any important occasion, etc. 

33. tournament - competition 

34. reminiscent - showing that you are thinking about the past, especially in a way that causes you pleasure. 

35. incredible - unbelievable; difficult to believe 

36. savor - to enjoy the full taste or flavor of something, especially by eating or drinking it slowly. 

37. stump - one of the sets of three verticle wooden sticks that form the wicket. 

38. crease - a write time on the ground near each wicket that marks the position of the bowler and batsman. 

39. boundary - a hit of the ball the crosses the boundary of the playing area and scares extra points.

40. googly - a ball that is bowled so that it looks as it will turn in one direction but that actually turns the opposite way. 

41. maiden - an over in which no points scored.

42. sixer - the shot hit by a batsman which goes straight out of the boundary by flying and scores six points.

43. pitch - an area of ground specially prepared and marked for playing games like cricket. 

44. power-play - the period of six overs in which the fielders have to stay inside the thirty-yard circle

45. no-ball - a ball that is bowled in a way that is not allowed and which means that a run is given to the other team
